Six Military Helplines You Should Know About

The Department of Defense (DOD) wants all Service members, Veterans, military family members and caregivers to know that if you or a loved one are experiencing a challenge, you are not alone. The following military helplines are available 24/7 and offer information and guidance through a variety of difficulties that can occur in the lives of Service members, Veterans and their families. Don’t hesitate to reach out to one of these helplines where trained representatives are standing by to talk with you. They can answer questions, offer solutions and be a valuable resource for getting the support you need.

Veteran Crisis Line: 988, Press 1 or Text 838255

Provides free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones even if you are not registered with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Call the toll-free suicide prevention service if you feel you are in crisis and need to talk to someone immediately.

DoD Safe Helpline: 877-995-5247

Provides confidential crisis intervention, support and information to members of the DOD community who have been sexually assaulted, whether the assault was recent or occurred long ago. The staff will listen to your needs and concerns and discuss your long- and short-term safety, resources and options.

VA Caregiver Support Line: 855-260-3274

Offers caregiver resources and caregiver support programs to include peer support mentoring, tips and tools, self-care activities and more. Caregiver Support Coordinators are available at each VA Medical Center to help caregivers find the right support to meet their needs and to enroll in caregiver programs and services.

Military OneSource: 800-342-9647

Provides resources and support to the entire military community anywhere in the world, including non-medical counseling services, spouse employment help, financial counseling, webinars and online training, relocation and deployment tools, and much more.

National Call Center for Homeless Veterans: 877-424-3838

Provides free and confidential counseling to Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness along with their family members, friends and supporters. Learn about VA homeless programs, health care and other local services.

Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment Call Center: 877-487-6299

Supports recovery and success of Marines and their families who are wounded, ill or injured, whether they are assigned to the regiment, remain with a parent unit or have already transitioned to civilian life.
