Richard Alcaraz is a Marine Corps Veteran who found himself depressed and isolated after he was unable to use his prosthetic leg due to a severe dermatological problem. Fortunately, a friend told Richard about receiving care from a physician in the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Community Care Network (CCN) if care was not available from his local Phoenix VA Medical Center. TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) was able to work with VA on Richard’s behalf to get him the care he needed and treat his issue, greatly improving his health and well-being. Today, Richard is a medal-winning competitive athlete. He explains that playing sports “made me feel like I had a purpose again.” Learn more about Richard’s experience by reading his full story, TriWest and VA Make a Difference in Veteran’s Life.
