Anne Adkinson spent years caring for her husband without realizing there was a name for what she was doing.
Many caregivers don’t immediately recognize themselves by that title. They’re simply doing what needs to be done for someone they love. For Anne Adkinson, caring for her husband, a post-9/11 Marine Corps combat Veteran, meant balancing medical appointments, raising young children, rebuilding a career, and adapting to a new reality she never expected. It wasn’t until someone told her, “You’re a caregiver,” that she realized she didn’t have to face the journey alone.
That moment became the turning point that connected Anne with support, resources, and a community that understood what her family was experiencing. With those tools, she found renewed purpose, returned to school, and built a meaningful career helping other military-connected families navigate their own journeys.
Watch Anne’s inspiring story to learn how recognizing the caregiver within changed not only her life, but the lives of her husband, children, and the families she now serves.
