Research shows there are around 14.3 million military caregivers in the United States.
Lifting up and supporting the unsung heroes behind the heroes – that’s the main focal point of the work of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
Since 2012 the Elizabeth
Dole Foundation has been helping America’s military and Veteran caregivers and the people they care for thrive by providing resources and support networks.
As a longtime supporter of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) champions the organization’s commitment to caring for our nation’s heroes.
“TriWest is dedicated to helping our nation’s Veterans and military members, and their families who are often caring for them. The Elizabeth Dole Foundation has been instrumental in highlighting the important role of military caregivers and ensuring they receive the support they need. TriWest is fully committed to doing the same,” said Donna Hoffmeier, TriWest’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications and Advocacy.
A military caregiver is a family member, friend, or acquaintance who provides care and assistance for, or who manages the care of,
an active duty Service member or Veteran. They help with a wide range of both physical and mental illnesses and injuries, including amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As the name implies, caregivers take care of many things for their loved ones, like dressing, bathing, and helping them to cope with emotional difficulties, and so much more.
The Elizabeth Dole Foundation carries out its mission through implementation of key campaigns and programs that impact four key areas for caregivers and their families:
- Promoting emotional and mental wellbeing
- Building and sustaining financial strength and economic mobility
- Strengthening support and improving outcomes for caregiver youth
- Improving the care ecosystem for Veterans and their caregivers
Research shows there are around 14.3 million military caregivers in the United States. Caregivers manage complex responsibilities, often at significant personal cost — financial strain, social isolation, and the weight of their own wellbeing set aside in service to someone they love.
TriWest has provided
direct support of several of the foundation’s key campaigns, including the Heroes & History Makers Celebration, Hidden Heroes Campaign, National Convening, and the Hidden Helpers Coalition.
“We are grateful for TriWest’s support of military and Veteran caregivers and their commitment to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation mission,” said Jodi Sheedy, Chief Communications Officer for the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. “Together, we have been able to reach more caregivers and strengthen the programs that military families depend on.”
