A Brief Introduction to Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a broad range of benefits and services to eligible Veterans of the United States armed forces and to their dependents and survivors. VA has created a booklet — Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors — to help you and your loved ones learn how to access these benefits. The booklet contains a brief overview of the most commonly sought information as well as resources with more information.

VA is committed to providing Veterans with the world-class benefits and services they have earned.

VA operates the nation’s largest health care system, with more than 1,200 care sites available across the country, including hospitals, community clinics, counseling centers and various other facilities. In addition to health care, other VA benefits include disability compensation, housing grants, transition assistance, education and training, grief counseling, employment support, home loan guaranties, life insurance, small business support, burial and memorial benefits and more.

VA is committed to providing Veterans with the world-class benefits and services they have earned by adhering to the highest standards of compassion, commitment, excellence, professionalism, integrity, accountability and stewardship.
